Actos Side Effects Lawsuit

For hiding the risk of bladder cancer, in April of 2014, the makers of Actos and their business partner were ordered by a federal court to pay $9 billion.

Side Effect Lawsuit

Actos, a popular diabetes medication, has been linked to an increased risk of bladder cancer.  If you or a loved one was diagnosed with bladder cancer WHILE taking Actos, compensation may be available to you.

To participate in this lawsuit you must meet the following requirements:

1) you must have taken Actos for at least two (2) years and
2) you must be a non-smoker.

The legal action against Actos is structured as a mass tort lawsuit (learn why that’s important to you). Unlike class action lawsuits, a mass tort lawsuit treats each claimant (victim) as an individual. What this means to you is that a separate, individual lawsuit against the manufacturer is filed upon your behalf. It is worth noting that settlements in these cases often result in large sums of money being awarded to the claimant; the majority going to you and a much lesser amount to the attorney. Also there is NEVER any upfront payment to the attorney or any out-of-pocket expenses for which you are responsible.

A Look Into Actos

Actos, known generically as pioglitazone, is a popular prescription drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. Just how popular is Actos? In 2008 Actos was the 10th best selling drug in America with sales of over $2.4 billion. That was very good news for Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the drug’s manufacturer, as many other countries had actually banned its sale. [pullquote]Germany and 6 other countries have banned Actos.[/pullquote]Australia, Canada, Germany, France, India, Japan and New Zealand withdrew Actos from their markets due to concerns associated with severe side effects.

A study in 2012 reported that the use of Actos doubled the risk of bladder cancer. This elevated risk was found to be both dose and duration dependent, meaning that the risk increased from either taking higher doses of Actos and/or taking it for longer periods of time.

What Actos Patients Should Do

It is important to be aware of the signs of bladder cancer. These include:
1) increased need to urinate
2) pain upon urination
3) bloody or red-colored urine

If you experience any of these symptoms, IMMEDIATELY contact your physician.
