“The road of life is full of distractions. Don’t let your phone be one of them.” That’s the motto of iZUP (eyes up) by Illume Software, a new app that reduces unnecessary phone calls when a car is in motion. When phones sense a speed of over 5 miles per hour, the program sends calls to voicemail and puts texts on hold until the vehicle has stopped. Emergency phone calls are permitted, along with a few pre-approved phone numbers that include Google Maps. If passengers need to speak on the phone, an authorized account holder can log into the iZUP website and temporarily suspend service. The app can be turned back on by pressing the “Activate” button.
The product is mainly marketed at parents trying to keep their children from driving while distracted. Beginning on December 14th, consumers can sign up for a free 30-day trial. After that, it’s $4.95 a month.
