Excelligence Learning Corp. Violates Lead Ban, Pays Fine

Excelligence Learning Corp. is willing to pay a $25,000 civil penalty for violating a lead paint ban, but they deny knowingly disobeying the law. The penalty settlement has been provisionally accepted by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.

The CPSC alleged that Excelligence imported more than 33,000 units of children’s products that contained lead paint above the 0.06 limit between August 2000 and August 2007. As a result of the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, the regulatory limit was reduced to 0.009 percent on August 14, 2009.

The products, recalled in late 2007 and early 2008, included shaving paintbrushes, a giant measuring chart and Tic Tac Turtle Toss play mats.

The CPSC is still interested in receiving incident or injury reports related to the product recall or recalls related to the Excelligence products. For more information, visit https://www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident.aspx.
