JUST REPORTED:

Nutro Products Recalls Dry Cat Food

Feeding your feline just got a little more dangerous. Nutro® Products is voluntarily recalling select varieties of dry cat food with incorrect levels of zinc and potassium.

Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Dry Cat Foods and Nutro Max Cat Dry Foods with “Best if Used By” dates between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010 are affected by the recall. A production error made by a United States-based premix supplier resulted in excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium in products distributed in all 50 states. The zinc and potassium were originally intended as nutritional supplements to Nutro dry cat food.

Consumers are urged to immediately stop feeding cats the tainted product, and switch to another cat food that provides the correct level of nutrients. As of May 21, Nutro Products had received no customer complaints related to the cat food. However, pet owners should be aware of product-related symptoms in cats, including reduced appetite, refusal of food, weight loss, vomiting or diarrhea. If your cat is experiencing health issues or is pregnant, consult your veterinarian.

Nutro Products is currently working with distributors to have the dry cat food pulled from store shelves. The company is offering a full refund or exchange for another Nutro® product. Customers with questions can contact the company at 1-800-833-5330 between the hours 8:00 AM to 4:30 AM CST.
